Feline Behaviour and Welfare

Cats are favoured pets, but some felines are wild animals. This book examines the cat in a very broad context. The author seeks to apply insights on domesticated cats to understand wild felines, and vice versa.
Aspects of cat welfare are extensively discussed in the book, as are feral cats, as well as the interactions between cats and humans. Because the cat is considered from both ethological and veterinary points of view, the book is of interest not only to cat owners and breeders, but also to veterinary and paraveterinary professionals, animal shelter staff and animal behaviour experts.

Wild cats are the focus of three chapters of the book, in which large cats as well as smaller and lesser-known species are addressed. Specific chapters delve into cat neuroethology and reproduction. The discussion of cat welfare and its origins forms a basis for information on abnormal behaviour, and on issues essential to cat welfare.
