For the revised, 2011 edition, Beck received assistance from two other authors. The three of them have provided a look at the current (as of 2010) state of affairs regarding this topic. An exact definition for the use of tools is given, as well as new ways of using tools that have appeared in the literature. All known forms of tool making are discussed, and myths about tool use are brought to the fore. Specific examples of tool use by invertebrates, birds, fish and mammals are provided; these indicate how it differs from use by advanced animals.
