Leaders in Animal Behavior: The Second Generation

The field of animal behaviour has changed considerably over the past 25 years. This book portraits 21 people who have played, and continue to play, an important and unique role in this discipline.
Research in and knowledge of the behaviour of animals have seen enormous developments in the last 25 years. Progress has been made in behavioural ecology and in social biology. Laboratory and field research have been integrated, and there have been advances in sub-disciplines such as sexual selection and foraging behaviour. Various researchers have contributed to the progress of this field. In this book, the voices of 21 of those people are heard who have made unique contributions to this discipline.

The pieces are autobiographical and offer a fascinating window into the lives of these behavioural scientists. The tenor of the book becomes clear in chapter titles such as ‘Myths, monkeys and motherhood: a compromising life’ and ‘A passion for primates’.
